Haunted Trail

On Saturday we went with the Kennedys to the Haunted Trail. Bloomington/Normal has a wonderful walking trail that extends through both towns. A section of the trail in Normal is decorated and used as a "haunted" trail for two weekends. The first weekend is non-spooky for little ones, so we decided to try it out. Yeah, it was a first and last experience for us. The line was long and the trail was short. The best part was the hayrack ride back to our van. The boys are GAA GAA for tractors. Bet you can't guess who they are....

Primary Program

The boys were in their first Primary Program on Sunday. The Primary has been practicing for weeks and months on songs and lines in the program. The theme was Family. Each child got to say a line about something they loved about their families. The boys were (suppose) to say: "Our family has a mom, a dad and us. We were born on the same day." They sang songs such as "Families Can Be Together Forever", "How Firm a Foundation" and "A Family is of God."

After practices we would hear funny anecdotes about the boys. Both were singing loudly, using made up words, but they were participating with gusto. Aidan apparently loves the microphone. If he got anywhere near it he would grab it and start talking--loudly.

So the real deal comes around. Ethan did fabulous standing up and sitting and singing. He didn't really get a chance at the microphone, but he made up for that by singing "I am a child of God" with the congregation. Aidan was a different story. He decided that he was going to lay down on the floor for the entire program. They did get him to talk into the microphone, but he was cut off mid sentence. It was a bit embarrassing, but definitely something I can use on him when he's a teenager. heh heh heh.

Carving Pumpkins

For family home evening we went to Casey's for our pumpkins. The boys loved roaming around the pumpkins. There were white ones and green ones and really HUGE ones. They each chose a pumpkin.....and then put mom & dad to work. The boys rode their bikes around while Tony drew the faces and Julie gutted the pumpkins. It's a lot of work to gut a pumpkin! We had fun cutting into them and watching the faces come alive. The boys were fascinated by the candles glowing thru the cut outs. Aidan wanted a scary pumpkin and Ethan wanted a smiley pumpkin. We think they turned out great! Tony is a talented artist. Julie sauteed the pumpkin seeds - they have tons of nutrients. But, alas, she was the only one to eat them. I'm glad we did it early. Now we can enjoy them all month long!
